HISTORY

François Aubry sails the high seas with the new watch “La Planète Bleue”. Its name pays homage to our land.  “Blue” means a clean and healthy ocean, which is not the reality of the moment. However, we wish to be optimistic and are pleased to announce a partnership with Yvan Bourgnon and his organization The SeaCleaners. A portion of the sales from The Blue Planet go directly to the organization to preserve the oceans from plastic pollution.

Some forty years ago, before learning the jeweller’s trade in a large watchmaking company, François Aubry dreamed of building sailing ships in shipyards. The inspiration for the design of this watch is drawn from this period of his life. During the design process, Yvan Bourgnon’s imprint as an ambassador was evident from the very first strokes of a pencil. Moreover, Yvan was born in the watchmaking metropolis of La Chaux-de-Fonds before exploring the oceans on his parents’ boat at the age of 8.

Yvan Bourgnon is unquestionably one of the greatest marine adventurers of his generation. He regularly takes up extreme challenges such as the North-West Passage single-handed on a sports catamaran. He also holds a good number of records and sports titles to his credit. Accompanied by his son Mathis, they recently broke two world records, that of crossing the English Channel and the Mediterranean. He is preparing to take up a new challenge on a multihull, the solo round-the-world voyage against the winds. This challenge, reputed to be very dangerous, is reserved for the most experienced skippers on the planet.

During the round-the-world race on a sport catamaran, Yvan Bourgnon has to face a new obstacle; ocean pollution and in particular plastic waste, which has slowed down his race. After taking up the challenge, in 2015 he founded the association The SeaCleaners, which aims to protect the oceans. It was then that the project for the first oceanic plastic collection boat was born.  The “Manta” project will not only aim to build an autonomous vessel capable of cleaning the oceans, but also to raise awareness among people in developing countries about the consequences of plastic and recycling solutions.
